Workshop1“I finally found people that are going to help me.”
~ Employment Program Participant, upon completion of workshop.

Goldie’s Place held our monthly Employment Workshop for homeless adults from May 20 through May 24, with eight participants attending. The week-long workshop culminates with Career Day, bringing together potential employers and other service organizations with participants. Presentations this month were from 3 potential employers, including TelePro President Reid Johnson, along with an organization that provides affordable housing. The participants, formally dressed in work attire, engaged in discussions regarding salary, matching skill sets with potential employment opportunities, and the importance of making a good impression within the first 3 seconds of a meeting.

April’s Employment Workshop was a huge success with 4 of the participants finding employment within just a few days of completing the workshop. We hope to surpass those numbers for May and are off to a good start—1 of the 8 individuals had already secured a job by the last day of the workshop!

Goldie’s Place provided employment services to over 230 homeless men and women in 2012, helping them to increase their employability and learn skills needed to obtain employment. Using a team approach emphasizing accountability and a willingness to be open minded, skill building includes job search techniques, resume writing, application preparation and interview and presentation skills.  The agency’s holistic approach to enhancing self-esteem and employability resulted in close to 50% of Employment Program participants securing jobs in 2012.
